After going down by 136points in round 3 to the Aspley Hornets, it was a matter of how much would the Crows go down by this time. For the first time in several weeks and after a horrid week in which the Crows clubhouse was broken into, the young Crows side showed glimpses of a bright future a head only going down by 31points at Rockville Oval.
Young star Mitch Hiscock took out best on ground honours after the crafty left footer helped the Crows gain momentum right from the first bounce. Hiscock helped control the Crows through the midfield with a number of centre clearances and the Crows were only down 14points at the first break.
Toowoomba was only able to record 2 behinds for the 2nd quarter as the Crows disposal let them down and the Hornets were able to fly away and put 4goals 2behinds onto the scoreboard before the main break. Vice-Captains Lochie Dignan and Tasman Myles had fantastic quarters with their pressure acts and hard ball gets. Injured Captained Matt Waltisbuhl also stood up in the wasteful 2nd quarter.
After a stirring half time address by Crows coach John Wilson the Crows out-scored Aspley in the 3rd Quarter and showed that they could run with the competitions best teams. Again Hiscock was the standout with his silky skills along with Moyle, Bailey, Goodlet, Dignan, Myles and Hughes.
Bringing the half time margin down from 38 to 32, the Crows believed for the first in the game that they could actually go out with a win. Going into the breeze for the last quarter, Aspley were able to boot the first 2 goals of the final term and stretch the margin out to 44points.
The Crows rallied and stormed home to win the final quarter by 1 point, with goals to Goodlet and Bailey.
"Only going down by 31points this time is an improvement from where we were at in round 3, its a credit to how hard the boys have worked over the year. We still have a few things to work on before our clash next week with the Magpies but the boys (Crows) have gained a-lot of respect after todays defeat." Crows Assistant coach Jeff Neumann said after the game on Sunday afternoon.
The Crows will now travel to Sherwood to take on the reigning premiers the Western Magpies in the Western Derby. Game kicks off at 2:00pm
