The AFL North Queensland Cup is wide open after day one of the round robin matches at Watson’s Oval yesterday. The start of the carnival dished up little in the way of surprises, with the fancied teams, including Trinity State High, who reigned supreme in a similar tournament last year, making their mark as one of the contenders.
In Pool A, St Aufustine’s College emerged as one of the frontrunners, undefeated after two outings. Their main challengers loom as the Townsville visitors from Kirwan State High, who weren’t troubled in their two clashes.
In Pool B, Trinity shape up as one of the teams to beat, in what proved to be an even group of teams.
