Brent Pearson is rising through the AFL ranks, and in the process setting the right example for his Yarrabah peers. The 12-year-old is the stand-out from a dozen Yarrabah players who are now linked to the Pyramid Power AFL club.
Despite only being a relative newcomer to the game, Pearson excelled at the recent Primary Schools State Championships in Brisbane and was rewarded with the most valuable player award for his side, the Crusaders.
He might be one of the smallest players on the ground, but Pearson continues to go from strength to strength in his role as a utility player for the club. Pyramid Power president Brett Kennerley said Pearson was an encouraging role model among the Yarrabah youngsters.
"Pyramid Power Junior AFL took steps to offer children from Yarrabah a chance to play club football with us two years ago," he said. "We’ve steadily built trust and respect within the community and believe Brent’s recent achievement is a real boost for his community and our club. ‘‘Every game, comments were made of his outstanding behaviour on the trip as well.
