Powerhouse Darling Downs and Dalby school Our Lady of the Southern Cross College have been knocked out of the AFL Queensland under 14 Northern States Cup after round robin games Thursday morning at the State quarter finals held at Sherwood AFC.
Poor kicking at goal was the Southern Cross's biggest opponent in the opening match of the day as Ferney Grove High School were able to hang on to a 4.4 (28) to 2.5 (17) win over their Dalby opponents. Dan Mauch and Harry Milford led the silky Southern Cross side and Mauch earned best on ground honours for his efforts.
OLOSCC second game was against the eventual winners Benowa State High School who proved to good for the Dalby boys. Benowa won convincingly by 7 goals and Dan Mauch again was terrific along with small defender Riley Easton. Mauch taking out best on ground honours again for OLOSCC. Benowa 8.3 (51) defeated Southern Cross 1.3 (9) in cold conditions.
In their third game of the morning Southern Cross came up against the also winless St Michaels College where OLOSCC recorded their first win of the finals series defeating St Michaels 6.7 (43) to 3.4 (22). Dan Mauch had another fantastic game but best on ground honours went to ruckman Dan Glasby.
Congratulations to Our Lady of the Southern Cross College for progressing to the State Quarter Finals, finishing a respective 3rd.
Our Lady of the Southern Cross College will contest the primary schools Gold Coast SUNS and Carol Berry Cups after the June/July school holidays, best of luck at that competition.
