The Power who has competed in the Junior Division for the last 7 years have already fielded several enquiries to form a senior team throughout this year so much so that Club President Sharyn Carnahan has decided to officially launch a bid for a senior team to compete in the Darling Downs AFL League for season 2012.
The inclusion of the Power into the Darling Downs Senior League will result in an increase to 10 teams competing in the 2012 competition if the Pittsworth bid is successful.
Development Manager Keith Webb is excited about the prospect of another senior side joining the DD competition. “We have moved from 6 senior sides in 2008 to 9 senior teams at present and the possible inclusion of Pittsworth in 2012 would be another great result for AFL on the Downs. This will mean that all clubs are represented in both the junior and senior competitions, a superb achievement by our clubs and further example of the growth of the AFL game on the Downs.” Webb said.
In another great result for the club the Power have been successful in applying for a $25,000 grant to upgrade the condition of home ground (Bridgeman Oval) as well as upgrade current canteen facilities at the club.
This grant couldn’t have come at a better time according to president Carnahan who believes that “the upgrade in facilities will hopefully go a long way to attracting new people to the club and help with the expansion of our senior team for next year”.
Pittsworth are currently looking for expressions of interest for senior players for season 2012 and will be holding a meet and greet session with anyone interested at the Pittsworth Hotel / Motel on Thursday 23rd June at 6pm (bingo room).
Those interested please contact Graeme Carnahan on 0402 209 306 or come along and listen in to the Meet and Greet session on 23rd June.
