Zillmere Eagles showed why they are contenders for the 2011 Quest Community Newspaper Under 18 Youth Girls Cup with a comfortable 79point win over the young Darling Downs Crows side at Rockville oval, Saturday morning.
The Crows struggled to shut down a well-drilled Zillmere side that ran the Crows off their feet in the first and second quarters. An eleven goal opening half to Zillmere shut the Crows out of the contest but the young Crows never gave up and gained some respectability in the scoreline and kicked 3goals to the Eagles 4 in the last half.
All three of those goals came in the last quarter and they kept the Eagles to just three behinds in the final term. The Youth Girls Crows have not lost a final quarter all season, as they continue to run games out strongly.
"We have two parts too our game that we want to work on and that needs to be fixed if we want to get the four points, 1. Playing four quarters of football, at the moment we are struggling to put four solid quarters together and our stats show we haven't lost a fourth quarter all year, if we can work on those first three then who knows. 2. We lack a key forward at the moment, someone who can take a few contested marks a game and kick a few goals, we have lost a few games due to the fact we keep turning the footy over at CHF and get hurt on the rebound," Girls coach Jeff Neumann explained at the conclusion of Saturdays game.
Final Result: Darling Downs Crows 3.2 (20) def. by Zillmere Eagles 15.9 (99)
Crows Goals: T. Higgins 1, J. Ingleton 1, R. Kennedy 1
Crows Best: K.Rogers, T. Higgins, J. Gilligan, E. Thompson
