MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK 8 - CULLINAN SPEARHEADS DV

GAME OF THE WEEK

DV OF OLD 72 d RESERVOIR DOGS 71

With the DV boys needing to win every remaining game to stay in finals contention, a solid team effort got them a tough win over the favoured Reservoir Dogs. DV came out in the first quarter with all guns blazing, especially the Moore brothers, and established a 12 point lead at quarter time. The Dogs responded, especially through Johnny Listers hot hand, and were able to have the difference back to 3 at 3 quarter time.

A Peter Brack 3 pointer at the start of the last quarter tied the game. From that point, the score see sawed, neither team able to grab the ascendancy. Datson scored a trey for the Dogs and Moore replied with one of his own for DV. Luke Moore then knocked a triple to put DV ahead only to have Bracky reply with another 3.

After Warwick Straw put in 2 free throws to tie the game with 20 seconds to go, Reservoir Dogs failed to score, giving DV a final chance to win the game. Surprisingly the ball ended up in Dan Cullinans hands. With 1 second left on the clock, DC launched a customary fadeaway jumper. Naz O'Brien tried to block the shot, but Danny was fading so far he was almost lying on the ground. Unfortunately for Naz, the refs called a foul on him and DC went to the line. DC slotted through the first one. GAME DV!

RICK JAMES ... B*ITCHES 78 d INTER BW 53

After getting a scare in the first match of the season, Rick James was determined to make a statement to the college boys. Unfortunately, dominant big man, Andrew Oliver, was missing from the team due to an unfortunately placed boil! Without the big man there to take the shots, Paul DiMarzio stepped up and ran rings around the Inter defence.

Chivhanganye started strongly for Inter but went missing in the second half. Tshering tried to step up for the Inter boys, but it was more a lack of structure that cost Inter the game and possibly a finals position.

AND 1 89 d WARD 83

Ben Cukier became the 18th player this season to pull on a jersey for team Ward and it appeared that the new recruit shooting touch came with the jersey. Against the tough And 1 team, minus Sedale Threatt but including Dallas Wilson, Cukier had the hot hand all game and knocked down 8 3's to give And 1 a scare.

And 1 looked to have built an unbeatable lead in the 3rd quarter on the back of another stellar inside game from big man, Rob Chapelle. However Ward was able to get the score within 2 points with a minute to go in the last quarter. Enter Tyrone Lake who went "Whack, whack", knocking down 2 straight triples to put the game on ice.
