Both sides sit at the sorry end of the AFL Cairns ladder, but Norths and Cairns City will enter battle with a realistic chance of taking the chocolates tomorrow. North Cairns face Centrals Trinity at home and will welcome back skipper Brendan Tennick and Patrick Nandy, while the Lions battle the unpredictable Souths Cutters at Holloways Beach.
Lions player-coach Tim Seymour is well aware of the Cutters’ sporadic form this season and has put the challenge to his players to get a result.
“I think we’re a fair chance,” he said. “We showed last week (in their 11 point loss to Norths) that we have the desire. I think if we are always that desperate and can put pressure on the ball carrier we’ll be a show.”
North Cairns have paid the price all season for falling into periodic black holes and they can ill afford to continue that trend if they want the win against Centrals. Norths sit in equal second-last place in front of the Lions, but coach Kane Richter knows it’s the perfect chance to make up ground.
“W aren’t far away and these are the games we need to win,” he said. “It’s a big opportunity for us.”
