South Toowoomba Bombers player Chris Jackson is going places. The 195cm ruckman recently represented a Southern Indigenous Team in a curtain raiser to the Essendon Vs Richmond game at the MCG as part of the Dreamtime at the G celebrations.
Jackson was a standout in this game booting 6 goals in a best on ground performance and has since been identified by former Brisbane Lions 3 time premiership player Chris Johnson.
Johnson coaches the Avondale Heights AFC in the Essendon District Football League in NW Melbourne and was more than impressed with Jackson best on ground performance a fortnight ago so much so that Johnson has extended an invitation to Jackson to play for his team for the remainder of the season.
Johnson is willing to fly the big ruckman down to Victoria for 6 games this season and give him the opportunity to prove himself in the heartland of football. Avondale Heights has fostered former greats of the game such as Matthew Lloyd and the EDFL is traditionally one of the strongest AFL Leagues in the State of Victoria.
The Heights are on the road this weekend and line up against the 4th placed Greenvale side. This will be a tough encounter for the Big White V who currently sits in 9th place on the EDFL A grade ladder with 1 win from their opening 7 games.
For Jackson this is a great opportunity to get noticed playing at a higher level, get coaching from one of the game’s best Indigenous players in Johnson and a possible opportunity if Chris plays well for mature age recruit to AFL in 2012.
We wish Chris all the best you have the support of the entire Darling Downs Football community.
