JOHN SPOONER PRESENTS STATE BASKETBALL AWARD

John Spooner, one of the outstanding volunteers of SA Country Basketball for more than 30 years, presented the John Spooner Award in person to Lakers Under 18 players Emily Stafford and Matt Parslow in the break between the Women’s and Men’s games last Saturday night.

The annual Award goes to the Association, which wins most Division 1 games at the SA Country Basketball Junior Championships. This is a fantastic achievement when one considers that the Junior Lakers were runners-up in five of the eight 2011 Division 1 Championship competitions. More than 30 of thr Junior Lakers players assembled on Court1 for the presentations.

Spooner was the manager of the first ever representative SA Country State Under 16 Boys Team which played in the national championships back in 1975. He has been involved in various roles since then. He is also a former Basketball Mount Gambier Junior Development Officer.
