On Saturday to kick off Round 4, league leaders the Balmain Dockers knocked off improving Challengers UNSW Stingrays by 54 points. After a tight first quarter the Dockers showed their class over the Stingrays by extending their lead at every break. Belinda Pride was top goalscorer with 4 goals.
The Wolves recovered to find their mojo to defeat the Shamrocks by 39 points. Melissa Freckleton for the Wolves with 3 goals whilst Lisa "Kiwi" Roper had 2 goals for the Shamrocks. A worrying trend for the Shamrocks is their depleted playing list as other teams will continually substitute at will having fresh reserves all the time.
At the hallowed grounds of Sydney University Number 1 Oval, the Bombers showed the Breakaways a great display of football winning by 54 points. The goals were shared around by the Bombers showing their attacking prowess.
In game 4 in the nightskies of Macquarie University, the Warriors scored their second win of the season defeating the Saints by 16 points with Kim Woldhuis and Amelia Farrugia with two goals for the Warriors. After an unproductive first half all the action happened in the second half with the Warriors scoring 4 goals in the 3rd quarter and the Saints scoring 4 goals in the final quarter.
In the final game of the Round, a very accurate Southern Power comprehensively defeated newcomers Auburn by 122 points. With the Power scoring 5, 3, 5 and then 6 goals, it shows their transformation under their new coach and depending on how they perform against higher-ranking clubs, they may do enough to sneak into the top 6 before the league splits into the two pools. Lauren Hodgson was very good with 7 goals.
Last week I got 4/5 right so this week my tips are Balmain, Sydney Uni, UNSW-Easts, Newtown and the Wolves.
