Round 3 saw some interesting clashes. On Friday night with the lights in full working order, the Newtown Breakaways put a stop to the Stingrays momentum train with a 26 point win. This is probably one of the closer matches between the two sides showing the Stingrays continual improvement. The Breakaways were well led with 2 goals each to Roxy McGee and Tahneel James-Moody.
On Saturday a deadly accurate Sydney University made the trip to Blacktown Olympic Park to take on Auburn. The youngsters were shown a lesson with a deadly accurate Sydney University kicking a 77% accuracy to win 24.7.151 to no score. I'm sure the Tigers took a lot out of the game for skills to work on.
Also at the same time Balmain made the roadtrip down the Mt Ousley to Wollongong to play the Saints. It was a 126 point win as Balmain kicked inaccurately 19.18.132 to 1.0.6 with the home team's goal coming through Shellee Gibson.
At Rosedale Oval, Southern Power hosted the Western Wolves. The Wolves emerged to sing their song for the first time to win 6.5.41 to 1.0.6. Finally at Macquarie University, hosted their match against the Bondi Shamrocks and it was a close encounter for the Irish as they scraped through with a 5 point win. I attribute the closeness due to the Warriors implementing their game plan and the relative inexperience of the Shamrocks as there was many first time players out on the field.
I got a poor 3 out of 5 right for Round 3 and my tips for Round 4 are: Balmain, Wolves, Sydney Uni, Wollongong, Southern Power.
Match of the round is the 12pm match at Sydney University Oval where Sydney Uni host Newtown Breakaways. Close matches always occur with these two sides and i expect a dour struggle.
