The Crows have lifted themselves off the bottom of the Under 18 SportsReady ladder with a thrilling 1 point victory over Redland Bombers at Rockville Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Toowoomba stormed home with a 5 goal final term to a record a come from behind 10.5 (65) to 9.10 (64) win over their arch rivals in front of a strong home crowd. A 5 goal haul to Ryan Fletcher helped inspired a young Crows side which lacked intensity in the first half.
A one goal to three opening term saw the Bombers gain momentum and the young Crows run off their feet by the powerhouse club. Crows captain Waltisbuhl was a standalone warrior with his contested football and second and third efforts as Redlands went into the first break leading by 13 points.
Crows hit back straight away to close the gap back to 2 points with goals to Bailey and Fletcher. Sixteen year olds Rissman, Hiscock, Hughes and Thomas were outstanding in the second term and led the way along with Waltisbuhl in a half back to half back second term. Two goals to Bombers midfielder Fry saw Redlands take a 14 point advantage going into the main break.
After the main the break, the Crows defence kept Redlands to 1 goal for the term as Frampton and Fletcher put through majors to close the margin to 8 points. Lachlan Walters stood out as he kept Bombers key forward Ablett possesionless for the quarter.
Three final quarter goals to Ryan Fletcher and goals to Stein Davidson and Tye Hughes saw the Toowoomba Crows record their first win of the 2011 SportsReady Cup season. Waltisbuhl had a game to remember taking out best on ground honors for the Crows as young stars Thomas, Hughes, Rissman and Hiscock along with seasoned campaigner Ryan Fletcher were outstanding.
