The first game is the New England Nomads first game at home in 2011. They will be all fired after losing in round 1 to Eagles. Big things are expected of the Nomads this year they will be eager to get the 4 points in this game. On the face of it the Cats appear to have been hammered in their 2 games so far. But they are going in the right direction and the good thing for them is that they will get their 2 longest trips of the year out of the road in the first 3 games. This will make it easier for the Cats in the long run giving them every chance to win some games this year. However the Nomads will be to strong in this game with the likes of Weston Whitby, Hamish Pearce, Matt Bourke and their ever improving giant ruckman Omphile Temoso.
Prediction: The Nomads will win comfortably by 87 points.
The match of the round is in game 2 at Narrabri's Leitch Oval. The Eagles are brimming with confidence at the moment and this battle with the Swans could see them stay at the top of the Essential Energy Tamworth AFL Ladder. The Swans win over the Saints last week may have been kick they needed to get their season started. I think the Swans still have a bit of work to do before they are premiership contenders this year. The Eagles on the other hand are building on their good return to the EETAFL in 2010 and while ride this way as long as they can. One thing they need to do is turn their nest into the impregnable fortress that the Saints turned Varley Oval into over the last 4 years. If they can do this and pick up the odd win away then there is every chance they can stay at the top of the ladder.
Prediction: The Eagles will win the battle of the birds and kick the Swans out of their nest by 46 points.
The final game is at Tamworth's No.1 Oval where the Kangaroos will host the Bulldogs. Kangaroos have their tails right up at the moment after their 2 win in the preseason and their strong win over the Cats at the Cattery. The Bulldogs are the Jekyll and Hyde team of the competition after they thumped the Swans at No.1 Oval in round 1 and losing to the Eagles by 40 points at the Kennel in round 2. Can the Bulldogs switch on for this game that is the million dollar question? They certainly have the height and talent to give the Kangaroos a run for their money. The Kangaroos are going to be the team that the rest need to beat this year and are gunning for the 2011 Essential Energy TAFL Cup.
Prediction: the Kangaroos will send the Bulldogs back to their Kennal with tail between their legs by 59 points.
The Saints have the bye this week.
And this week I didn't get to read the Drums tips first.
