Casey Scorpions coach Brad Gotch will coach his 250th VFA/VFL game on Sunday in a blockbuster against the Northern Bullants as Brittany Shanahan reports.
Many people are unaware of Gotch’s coaching success over 12 seasons at various VFL clubs and it’s certainly something the 48 year old should be proud of.
Spanning from 1994 at the Dandenong Redlegs in VFA days to 2011 at Casey Scorpions, Gotch has got his sides to play in ten finals series out of twelve seasons as a coach.
As a player he won a premiership with Springvale in 1991 but as a coach Gotch has won premierships with both Springvale (1996) and Williamstown (2003).
Gotch has won the VFL coach of the year on two occasions in 1996 and 2003 and in 1997 he was named VFL representative coach.
Working at AFL aligned clubs, Gotch has not only had to instill a winning culture at the clubs but become a mental and a pivotal part in the development of up and coming AFL players.
“Both go hand in hand (wining and development) and I have always worked on that theory over the years working both at Collingwood and the Bulldogs and now Melbourne,” Gotch told SEN1116 last night.
Now in 2011, Gotch is determined to improve on last year’s performance at the Casey Scorpions and it’s certainly got off to a good start. Casey Scorpions have won three of four games so far this season and went down to second placed Port Melbourne in round two by just ten points.
He has achieved great things so far, but Gotch will be looking for a win against the Bullants to be that one step closer to improving on last year’s third place ranking at season’s end.
