SA COUNTRY 2011 STATE UNDER 16 REPRESENTATIVES
Four of Mount Gambier’s elite junior basketballers have been selected in the 2011 SA Country State Under 16 teams. They are Kane deWit, Georgia Green, Malinda Markiewicz and Brianna Walters. Mount Gambier Junior Development Officer, Trevor Semmens is the Head Coach of the Girls’ state team.
Green and Walters were key players in the 2010 Under 16 SAC state while deWit and Markiewicz will see national championship action for the first time. Three of these state representatives are playing in metropolitan district teams in the current season. On the local scene all four play in their under 16 teams as well as gaining valuable experience at senior levels in the South East Coast Basketball League competitions.
This quartet face a demanding program in preparation for the Championships, including many training weekends in Adelaide and home programs involving daily individual sessions.
The Kilsyth Basketball Association based in greater metropolitan Melbourne will host the National Championships during the week of July 9th to 16th. Metropolitan and Country teams from WA, NSW. Victoria and SA will be joined by two teams from North and South Queensland and teams from ACT, NT Tasmania and New Zealand for the Championships.
