The Dalby Swans kicked off the opening round with a convincing win over the University Cougars at Baker Street in the under 12's competition. Young Matthews was the stand out for the Swans booting a bagful of goals and setting up a lot of play through the midfield. Cougars young-gun Potter was exceptional, booting the only goal for the Cougars and playing well from Centre Half Forward.
In other results for the Under 12's Warwick fought off a determined Lockyer Valley by 18 points at the Gatton Showgrounds, while across town the Bombers flew up over the Stingers with a impressive round 1 display and down in Goondiwindi the Highfields Lions roared against the young Hawks.
Pittsworth sent a fright through the Under 14 Coolaroo side, as Pittsworth powered home with a 4 goal to zero last term to send the Coolaroo coaching staff into a panic. Coolaroo controlled the first 3 quarters after an impressive 7 goal second quarter. Roo's trio Levy, White and Copland were outstanding through out the match while the Power contigent of Wagland, Baker, Gorring and Adams (Adams played over from Coolaroo) stepped it up a gear after the main break. The Roos were able to hang onto a 3 goal win.
In other results for the Under 14's Dalby were too good for University, while the Redbacks took the 4 points over Lockyer Valley. Hawks glided to a 4 goal win over the Lions and Bombers took the 4 points against East Stingers.
Reigning premiers the Dalby Swans continued their dominance by outrunning a young Cougars outfit. The Rockliff brothers ran all day as did forward duo Hughes and Thomas. Pyke, Savill, Parker and Maloney were the standouts for the Cougars, never giving up.
Other results saw the Redbacks outlast a classy Lockyer side and Souths created havoc for the East Stingers at Rockville.
