LIMESTONE COAST BASKETBALL GIVEN GREEN LIGHT

Limestone Coast, a regional area of Basketball in Country SA, has again been invited to compete in Division 1 of the 2011 SA State Junior Basketball Championships on May 12, 13 and 14 at metropolitan Adelaide stadiums.

Limestone Coast Basketball set up several years ago by Millicent Basketball Manager Peter Seebohm and Glenn Mathieson of Naracoorte, as a vehicle for the talented junior basketballers in the region to compete at levels above those of Association programs. Foundation member Associations are Mount Gambier, Millicent, Bordertown and Naracoorte. It is however disappointing that Basketball SA has relocated Bordertown to the Murray region, but there is a possibility that Bordertown may be permitted to join the Limestone Coast region for 2011.  Basketball SA reversed its decision of two years ago when the invitation for Limestone Coast was withdrawn after several years of considerable successes.

Limestone Coast Basketball presents opportunities for the many talented junior basketballers in the region to participate at levels above those of Association representation. It also provides Coaches with the opportunity to coach potentially elite junior players at the highest level within SA.

Applications to coach any age group from Under 12 through to Under 18 Boys and Girls close on Tuesday March 29th. with the Millicent or Mount Gambier Association offices. Obviously the number of teams which will be nominated will depend on the number of interested coaches and players.

Selection Trials for the 2011 squads will be held at the Mount Gambier Stadium on Sunday April 3rd. Times:
Under 12 Boys and Girls 9.30am – 11am
Under 14 Boys and Girls 11am – 12.30pm
Under 16 Boys and Girls 12.30pm – 2pm
Under 18 Men and Women 2pm – 3.30pm

Interested players are required to complete and forward Registration Forms prior to the Trials. Trainings for the squads will be coordinated on a team composition basis and will consist of no more than 3 or 4 sessions.    Organisers are keen to get Limestone Coast up and running again and are looking for local juniors and coaches to support this successful concept.
