THE DOMBKINS SISTERS HAVE PLAYED BASKETBALL SINCE THEY COULD WALK.

The Dombkins sisters have played basketball since they could walk.
Individually – Rebekah, Mikaela and Mattea – have played for the Maitland Mustangs in various teams and have gone onto make various representative squads.
But on Saturday night they will take to the court together at the Maitland Federation Centre as Maitland return to the Waratah Championship League for the first time since 2008.
The Mustangs will take on the Sydney Comets in the season opener after failing to field a team in the women’s division for the past two seasons, which had left the men to fly the Maitland flag.
In 2011, the women are back and this talented trio will form the backbone of the squad.
The eldest of the three Dombkins, 27-year-old Rebakah, will lead the Mustangs onto the court as captain and she said the siblings’ connection would work in their favour.

“We help keep each other in line,” she said.                                                                                            "I like being competitive and my sisters are probably just as bad, we all get a bit of white line fever and go pretty hard on court ... but we manage to keep each other in check and none of us are backwards in coming forwards when we talk to each other. “This will be the first full on time we have played together ... Mikaela and I played ABA [Waratah League] together for Maitland for quite a few years before I finished in 2007 and it was around then that Mattea was playing juniors and filled in for us [in seniors] a bit.

“I’m looking forward to it and it was probably part of my motivation for coming back, being able to play with my sisters.”

Rebekah said 24-year-old Mikaela will bring valuable experience to the Mustangs after a stint with the Sydney Uni Flames in the Women’s National Basketball League
