VENUE GIVEN HIGH PRAISE
“People high up in Basketball Australia like national selectors were really impressed with the venue,” she said. “A lot of people didn’t realise what sort of a hidden gem was lying out in country NSW. “So I wouldn’t be surprised if Maitland receives more tournaments in the future, especially with the new court markings and the mezzanine area.”
Maitland Basketball Association general manager Chris Heath said he was pleased to hear such positive feedback and was overjoyed with the renovations, a multi-function area and court resurface, which took place in the lead-up to the seven-day tournament. “I was glad the Tooheys New crew came when they did to do up the top of the grandstand, it really made a difference,” he said.
“Overall I think Maitland put on a good show and for a lot of Basketball Australia officials it was a real eye opener ... hopefully now we will have the opportunity to host a few Tests.” On court Victoria made a clean sweep of the four divisions by winning each grand final on Saturday.
