Members of the 2011 Hyundai Brisbane Lions Academy and players from the Electronic Workshop Under 18 Toowoomba Crows were treated to what many footy fans would dream of and that was a special coaching session that was taken by Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss and his assistants; Jade Rawlings, Adrian Fletcher, Shane Woewodin, Beau McDonald and Gary O'Donnell.
The Academy and Crows squad were split into 5 groups and with the assistant coaches taking a group each. Vossy was on hand to help explain thoroughly to the 100 plus audience at Clive Berghoffer stadium, why each of these drills were used at the top level. Also explaining the importance of focussing on the basic of Australian Rules Football.
After the training masterclass, the Lions Sportsmen's Function got under way in the John 'Kracker' McDonal room. With over 150 guests in attendance and a handful of Lions players at each table to mingle with everyone in attendance the night start off well. Through out the night interviews were conducted with Michael Voss, who let everyone know, including his playing group that if the squad missed finals this year it was unacceptable. Jonathan Brown also interview by MC Peter Rookas, let his players know that they all had to keep up the clubs culture and do it with pride.
Roaming MC's, AFL Queensland development staff Keith Webb and Jeff Neumann were getting around the tables to ask the questions no one would dare ask. From asking Daniel Merrett whose the biggest pest and ladies man, to utility Brent Staker, seeing if he was worthy of a DreamTeam selection in "Jeffro's" side.
A Development auction took place which raised close enough to a $1000 for development on the Darling Downs.
The masterclass and Sportsmen's Dinner concluded a action packed day one of the Telstra AFL Community Camp.
