Sixteen of the region's primary schools converged on Toowoomba's Queens Park to partake in the first event of the 2011 Telstra AFL Community Camp, the Best Banners Competition.
The competition was open to all grade four students at all primary schools across the Darling Downs and South West region. Grade four classes were asked to design a banner, which had to include the Brisbane Lions, success and their school. As all schools arrived on a sunny Toowoomba day, classes were allocated their very own Brisbane Lions trio. Students were able interact one on one with their favourite stars, from asking them questions about AFL to getting a photo and autograph.
Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan Brown and coach Michael Voss, along with the leadership group of Simon Black, Jed Adcock and Daniel Merrett helped judge which school would take home the title of Best Banner. Competition was close and any of the schools that participated could of won.
