CAIRNS' major sports venues appear to have escaped serious damage after strong winds from cyclone Yasi battered the city on Wednesday night and early yesterday morning.
AFL Cairns operations manager Melissa Dunstan said a quick inspection of Cazalys and the league's neighbouring offices revealed no obvious damage.
The venue is undergoing a $4 million redevelopment before hosting the July 16 AFL match between Richmond and the Gold Coast. But with the site thoroughly cleaned up before Yasi hit, materials posed no threat in the strong winds.
While Barlow Park suffered no damage to the ground from the cyclone itself, the Scott St car park was under water yesterday afternoon following torrential rain.
