DARRYL Griffiths is ready to improve the Mackay and district AFL scene one club at a time.
He has taken on the full-time role of club development officer and has hit the ground running.
“The last week or so has been full of meetings and I have more scheduled for next week,” he said.
“But, so far I'm really enjoying myself and looking forward to the challenge this job will present.”
Griffiths will perform the club development role over the next three years thanks to State Government funding.
The Essendon fan said he will draw on his local experience in his new role.
“I've been coach of the North Mackay Saints juniors for three years and on the junior executive committee for two,” Griffiths said.
“I'm a massive AFL fan and I think my local knowledge and experience will help me a lot.”
Griffiths said he is particularly looking forward to working with new clubs Sarina and Pioneer Valley.
“Working with the new clubs will be fantastic,” he said.
“I'm hoping to help them install good committees and the set-up they need to be a success in the long-term.
“I'm looking forward to working with all the clubs though because I think if we can improve each of the clubs we can improve the competition as a whole.”
