Mother nature has shown her destructive side in recent times but yesterday she turned the tables and provided perfect weather for the now traditional Souths Vs Crows Australia Day cricket match.
Souths and Crows players past and present represented both sides and all were extra keen to peform well this year with the stakes and cause being of such note. It was Crows team captain Jeff Neumann who had the first win of the day that being the coin toss. Neumann decided to send his openers into bat and with the greentop pitch that Lofty oval was showing the Souths quicks revelled in the early conditions bowling out the young Crows for 70.
Souths started their innings in similar fashion and it wasnt until Joe Carpenter and Troy Waddington put on a very handy 50 run partnership for the 8th wicket to give Souths a 53 run advantage at the end of the first innings.
From here the Souths were never headed running out comforable 9 wicket winners after the second innings and adding to their 2 previous Australia Day wins. Waddington was named man of the match for his quickfire 29 with the bat and stella performance in the field.
Umpires Wayne Waltisbuhl and Shaun Reardon controlled proceedings beautifully and with money raised for such a great cause the day was by far the best seen in the short 3 year history of this event.
A big thankyou to all players and spectators who came along and donated on the day.
