Recently the AFL held an industry conference with one of the sessions focused on diversity and what Australia needed to do as an industry to embrace the changing face of Australia.
One of the speakers was Jamie Pi (Southern Dragons player and club Treasurer), who immigrated to Australia from China with his parents when he was 13. Jamie spoke about how he fell in love with Australian Rules in the school yard in Dandenong and went on to form his own all Asian football team, the Southern Dragons.
Jamie recently commentated on the first ever AFL match in China between Melbourne and the Brisbane Lions. He even did it in his native tongue, Mandarin.
It was football that helped Jamie Pi connect with Australia. And now he is helping the game he loves, Australian football, connect with a whole new audience.
