In windy conditions Downlands jumped out of the blocks the better and booted the opening 4 goals of the game with Sam Moyle the chief destroyer for Downlands repelling all of Grammars raids early in the game.
A late goal to Grammar Centre Half Forward Fergus Frith kept them in touch at quarter time where Downlands led by 22 points.
A strong wind favouring the northern end of Gold Park assisted Toowoomba Grammar as they fought their way back into the contest in the second term but when Ryan Fletcher booted his second goal for the game for Downlands they went into half time with a handy 7 point advantage.
The third quarter was where Toowoomba Grammar set up their win. Grammar booted 2 goals against the breeze with 1 of those coming from Frith who was inspired, marking everything that came within his area and with Ryan Leeson also dominating through the midfield Grammar had shifted the momentum of the game their way.
Downlands are a quality team however and were not about to lie down that easily. A late goal to crafty on baller Josh Smith, his second for the game, and 2 more to Downlands had them in front by 17 points at the 3rd break.
The last quarter was dominated by Toowoomba Grammar who booted 5 goals to nil. Fergus Frith added 2 more to his tally taking him to 4 goals for the game and was narrowly pipped for best on ground honours by Leeson who was exceptional all day around ground and also dangerous when going forward booting 3 goals of his own.
Toowoomba Grammar came away with a hard fought 11.10.76 to 9.7.61 victory in what was a physical but fair game of high school football played in great spirit by both sides.
Congratulations to coach Charlie Aston and the Grammar players.
