AFL
Victoria has now released the results of its Future Directions Review into the
governance and administration of the Southern Football League (“SFL”) and the
Moorabbin Saints Junior Football League (“MSJFL”).
In short
the Review was to:
· Review
the future governance and administration structure options available to the SFL
and MSJFL;
· Communicate
with relevant stakeholders in the area; and
· Develop
recommendations to address key issues for the future governance and
administration of football in the inner southern region of Melbourne.
After
extensive consultation, the following recommendations have been presented for
consideration by both the SFL and the MSJFL:
1. That AFL Victoria facilitates merger
discussions between the SFL and MSJFL with the aims of the two Leagues merging;
2. That while the merger discussions
and negotiations take place, the SFL and MSJFL continue with the shared
administration arrangement; and
3. That while the merger discussions
and negotiations take place, the SFL and the MSJFL negotiate regarding the SFL
providing additional services to the MSJFL in a range of areas including
commercial and communication operations, and local government liaison.
The Board
of the SFL wholeheartedly supports the Review’s recommendations and looks
forward to working with AFL Victoria and the MSJFL in order to progress
discussions between the parties.
