The Navarre Football & Netball Club, Natte Bealiba Football & Netball Club and Lexton Football and Netball Club have officially been accepted into the Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League (MCDFNL) in season 2011.
Following an extensive review into football within the Greater Ballarat Region, the MCDFNL wishes to advise that at last night’s club delegates meeting, the MCDFNL clubs voted unanimously to allow the Navarre Football & Netball Club, Natte Bealiba Football & Netball Club and the Lexton Football & Netball Club to enter the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football & Netball League in 2011 and beyond.
The League views this as an extremely positive move, with 14 clubs now affiliated with the league.
Delegates also indorsed a 4th junior football competition which will commence in 2011 to go along with the current Senior, Reserve and Under 17 Competition’s. The age level of the 4th junior competition will be determined before the league’s AGM in December.
Along with the 4th football competition, “mini’s” junior games will also be played in 2011, with the preferred option being at half time of the senior game each week. The “mini’s” games will give the kids who may be too young to play in the new 4th football competition a chance to still have a game on a Saturday. One club president said last night said, “Often some players favourite footballing highlights are playing at half time in the senior competition”. The league is certainly excited by this initiative.
Along with the new football competitions in season 2011, there will be a 13 and under netball competition going ahead in 2011 as well. There has been great enthusiasm shown by a number of clubs who are interested in fielding 13 and under netball teams which is exciting. The league looks forward to all new competitions in 2011 being a success and is particularly excited about making the MCDFNL very much a “family day” each week where more people will be participating and attending matches.
The League Delegates also voted in favour of an 8 team finals format, in line with the AFL model. This model is an extremely fair system that certainly rewards the teams that finish in the top 4, as these teams will receive a double chance in week 1 of the finals. At the same time, the final 8 format also gives the teams that have finished from 5th to 8th a chance to taste finals football and netball, with their premiership dream still well and truly alive.
