Matt Markiewicz, Mount Gambier and SA Country State Junior Basketballer was awarded the inaugural Bert Bargeus Medal last week.  This is an outstanding achievement by Markeiwicz in being named as the best elite level athlete (male and female) in SA Country Basketball.

The criteria for this annual State wide Award includes participants attitude and commitment to the High Performance Scholarship and Development Network Programs.  The maintenance and detail of players’ journals are also taken into consideration.  Another important factor is the commitment participants make to their local Associations.

This Award was presented to Markiewicz by Bert Bargeus at a recent two day High Performance Scholarship holders’ Camp in Murray Bridge. 

It is a just reward for Matt, who is a talented and dedicated player.  He is also a fantastic role model for the juniors of the Association through his willingness to assist in local development programs.

Eighty five scholarship holders from all areas of Country SA and fourteen coaches attended the Camp.  The athletes were put through a series of training sessions by guest coaches including Marty Clark, Adelaide 36ers Head Coach and former Nation Women’s Head Coach Jan Stirling.
