IT took a week for it to happen but Laidley Auskicker Matthew Zammit finally got to present an AFL premiership medal.
Zammit was the envy of Auskick juniors around Australia as he was lucky enough to have a rare grand final opportunity.
Zammit stood on the podium in the middle of the MCG in front of 90,000 spectators on Saturday and presented Collingwood young gun Sharrod Wellingham with his premiership medallion after the Magpies beat St Kilda in the grand final replay.
Wellingham kicked two goals and notched 20 disposals for the Magpies in Collingwood’s 56-point victory.
Zammit twice got the opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of the MCG at half-time, first in the drawn grand final on September 25 and then again in Saturday’s historic replay.
The Laidley Auskicker and his family stayed in Melbourne for the week following the drawn grand final, with his father accompanying him to the first grand final and his mother attending the replay.
