The Bombers jumped out of the blocks well in the first quarter with midfielder Jeremy Crow booting the opening goal and with Webb chiming in for 2 first quarter goals of his own the Bombers held a handy 13 point lead at the first break.
In what has been described by many as the turning point in the game the Tigers hit a purple patch half way through the second term booting 4 goals in the space of ten minutes to claim the lead for the first time in the game and at half time held a slender 6 point advantage.
From this point on the game turned into a real arm wrestle. Both teams traded goals in the third term and when Webb kicked his 5th goal for the game late in the quarter the Bombers were back in front by 6 points.
The final quarter produced many scoring opportunities for both teams but a goal was not kicked until on baller Luke Adams was awarded a free kick just inside 50 which he converted to give the Tigers back the lead. This was to be the only goal kicked in the final term where the Tigers booted 1 goal 7 to the Bombers 5 points to outlast the Bombers 10.17.77 to 10.14.74.
The Grand Final was later described as one of the best seen in the history of the Darling Downs by AFLQ chairman Daryl Bray. Bray then presented the best on ground medallion to Tigers young gun Nick Upton who was outstanding across the back flank for the Tigers and along with fellow back flanker Chad Harper rebounded brilliantly all day.
Tiger’s veteran ruckman Andrew Wickes was also influential in the Toowoomba victory while Danny McErvale continued his goal kicking form of late booting 3 majors for the game.
For the Bombers Robbie Miller capped off a brilliant season with another terrific performance across half back. Matt Englart was again the main ball winner in the middle while Webb continued his consistent finals series with another 5 goal haul.
The Grand Final is the icing on what has been a great season for the Darling Downs with 3 new senior teams in this year’s competition and a 34% increase in registered players from 2009.
Congratulations to all involved in what has been a tremendous season.
