The Dalby Swans under 16 side have stood tall and trounced Coolaroo by 40 points in imposing fashion.
Brandon Peltz of the Dalby Swans was the only goal scorer for the first term of the under 16 grand final, after both sides had the opportunity to get the step up in the big decider. Both sides squandered chances in front of the sticks. Dignan, Peltz and Goodlett were outstanding through the midfield, as were their counterparts Joseph, Carlish and Hughes. Dalby were able to take a sneaky 5 point lead at the first break.
As the second period go under way it had looked as if Coolaroo were there to play as Hughes tapped to Joseph who kicked to full forward Payne, who missed his chance from 40metres out on a slight angle. From here on in, it was a all go ahead for Dalby as they piled on 28 unanswered points. Swans midfield unit of Dignan, Sam Rockliff, Goodlett and Thomas were getting a lot of football and setting up the attacking raids. Swans forwards Hirning, Jack Rockliff, Stewart and Butcher booted one goal each to set up a handy thirty-two point lead going into the main break. In a defence under fire Skehan, Mason and Henderson stood tall and played very good second quarters. Swans led 5.6 (36) to Roos 0.4 (4).
In a more even third term, no side could get on top as both sides went goal for goal as Swans full forward Butcher slotted home his second for the afternoon and stocky midfielder Bennett put away his first for the day. While Riseley and Payne gave the Roos a few team lifting goals, booting one goal each. Again Dignan, Peltz and the Rockliff brothers were first-class through the midfield as were Roos duo Joseph and Stahlhut. Peltz booted his second for the day only minutes before the siren to take the Dalby lead out too forty at the final break.
Not even a dominant three goal last term by Coolaroo’s Matthew Joseph was enough to get the Roos close to the Swans as Peltz took his afternoon tally to four and Jack Slattery chipped in on the action with his solo goal. Butcher, Dignan and Peltz had outstanding final quarters for the year, as did Joseph from Coolaroo.
Dalby Swans 11.8 (74) defeated Coolaroo 5.4 (34)
