The South Toowoomba Bombers have defeated the Dalby Swans in a seesawing Under 14 Grand Final at Rockville.
The Swans were out of the blocks early kicking the first three goals of the game through Milford, Gaur and Melbin. Bombers midfielder Jacob Verrall was able to sneak home a goal before the first break. Mauch, Cook and the Easton brothers were creating havoc for the Bombers as Schaumann and Lumsden were outstanding in a Swan dominated first quarter.
Second quarter started much the same as the first did with the Dalby midfield getting on top early but the Swans forwards were unable to convert several of their inside 50’s into goals. After 5 minutes of play, the Bombers kicked it up a gear, as Lumsden, Verrall, Noack and Schaumann lifted their work rate and were able to assist in their sides three goal to nothing second term. Verrall added another, as Krause and Teng kicked their first for the game. Halftime saw the Bombers lead the Swans by 6points 4.3 (27) to 3.3 (21).
With the first half an interesting oscillating affair, Dalby were out of the rooms quick and meant business in the Premiership quarter. Hanley Milford was the only goal scorer for the 3rd term as the Swans midfield brigade in Mauch, B.Easton and Gaur kept Souths out of the game and scoreless for the period. For Souths Jacob Schaumann stood tall in defence taking contested mark after contested mark and trying to set up a lot of the Bombers forward counter attacks. Swans held a slender two point lead at the final break, setting up a intense last quarter.
With the game in the balance and scores locked at 29 all, with 10minutes to go – the Bombers showed their premiership credentials and booted home four goals through Teng (2), Noack (1) and Iacono (1) to the Dalby Swans one goal which come from League Leading Goal Kicker Harry Milford, who finished with two for the game. Schaumann, Krause and Verrall were outstanding and played a pivotal role in the final result. Daniel Mauch, Max Gaur and Brodie Easton were exceptional for the Swans.
