The Coolaroo under 12’s capped off a perfect undefeated 2010 season with an impressive 74 point victory over the Dalby Swans in the season decider.
The Roo’s flexed their muscles early and using the breeze at Rockville to their advantage booting four goals to nothing in the first quarter. Copland and Adams were impressive racking up a number of possessions through the midfield. Copland capped off a perfect first quarter booting three of Coolaroo’s four goals. Roo’s full forward Carlish looked threatening but only slotted one of his 4 shots on goal.
The Swans came out flighting, keeping the Roo’s forwards goal less in the second term, this the first time in 2010, Melbin and Easton were fantastic and young gun Tom Matthews was able to slot home Dalby’s first goal of the Grand Final. Copland, Aston, Adams and Shelton were dazzling across half back and through the midfield. Coolaroo took a handy lead into the main break leading the Dalby Swans 4.8 (32) to 1.0 (6).
Another stirring speech at the break by Swans coach Ian Williams lifted the Swans and small forward Tom Matthews scored another freakish goal deep in the pocket. This stemmed the flow of momentum from the Roo’s but from here on in it was all Coolaroo. Copland and Shelton were racking up the positions through the centre, while forwards Carlish (2), Aston (1) and Skehan (1) were able to put Dalby to the sword.
Again after the three quarter time break, Dalby rallied and booted the first goal of the last term, as the League Best and Fairest winner Riley Easton speared a pass to League Leading Goal Kicker Sean Melbin. Coolaroo once again booted 4goals for the final term, forward pocket Luke Perrin slotted his first, while Aston added another to take his tally to two and full forward Carlish kicked two for the last, to take his grand total to 5 for the match. Copland and Adams were fantastic again for the Roo’s while Easton, Melbin and Milford were great in tiring circumstances.
Coolaroo Captain and midfielder Sam Copland was adjudged best on ground for his first quarter three goals and his terrific contested footy and link play throughout the match.
Both sides are to be congratulated on terrific seasons and making it to the Grand Final in 2010, commiserations to the Dalby Swans under 12’s and congratulations to coach Ben Adams and the Coolaroo under 12’s on the 2010 Premiership.
