Adrienne Jericho moved to the Darling Downs area in 1969 from Adelaide and didn’t expect to participate in Australian Rules football again. However with the introduction of AFL to the Darling Downs in 1971, Adrienne felt the pull too much and was unable to resist donning the ‘footy’ Guernsey and boots again.
During his time on the Darling Downs Adrienne was the Coolaroo Football Clubs first ‘A’ Grade coach & captain in 1971 & 1972. Dr Jericho took out the Coolaroo Best and fairest in 1971, 1972 and 1974 (Higrade Estates Award for the best and fairest player). Adrienne was selected to represent Darling Downs AFL in 1971, along with selection in the South Queensland A.F.A side. Dr Jericho in his first season finished runner up in the then called Falconer Medal (Holman Medal now) and 5th in the Goal kicking. AFL Darling Downs named the Reserves Grade Trophy for the premiership side the Jericho Shield in the late 1980’s.
Dr Adrienne Jericho taught at Concordia College and later moved to take up further roles in the Lutheran Education department. Adrienne served in the role of Executive Director for almost 16 years for Lutheran Education Australia, after serving as founding member of Immanuel Lutheran College in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast in the late 80’s/early 90’s.
Dr Adrienne Jericho will be remembered by all in the region for his outstanding dedication to AFL on the Darling Downs and his vast energy for helping with the driving AFL on the Darling Downs.
Our thoughts are with his family and wife Elizabeth, Dr Adrienne Jericho’s funeral was held on Tuesday 7th September, in Highgate South Australia.
