COUNTRY CUP NEWSLETTER 2011

The 2011 Country Cup will be held from Monday 17th till Saturday 22nd January 2011 in Albury NSW. Basketball WA usually send an Under 14 and Under 16 Girls and Boys teams to the Carnival.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Players to represent their State at a high level of competition.

COST
The approximate cost of attending will be in the order of $2500 +/- per player.
SELECTION PROCESS
Players will be selected by the Head Coaches at Try-Outs which take place on October 16 and 17 2010 at the Western Australian Basketball Centre. Details of the try-out process will be distributed to all BWA Affiliated Country Associations.

The cost of the try-out is $20 per person, and application forms will be sent to your local Association - speak to Jan Evans - country cup team Manager for Under 16 boys team or will be available from Glenn Dawson at BWA Office. (See contact details below.)
AGE GROUPS
The Age groups are as follows:  
Under 14 players must be 13 years of age on December 31 2011 (Born 1998)
Under 16 players must be 15 years of age on December 31 2011 (Born 1997 / 1996)


TEAM PREPARATION
Teams training involves three or four weekend training sessions. These training sessions are held on Saturday afternoon from 1.00pm till 5.00pm and Sunday morning from 8.00am till 12 noon.

These training sessions are held in Perth at the Western Australian Basketball Centre.

Dates for Team training are as follows:
Training 1:  30/31 October 2010
Training 2:  20/21 November 2010
Training 3:  18/19 December 2010
Training 4: TBA - January 2011   
TEAM COMPETITION:
Teams will be entered in the U14 and U15 State Championships which will be held in December 2010 at the State Basketball Centre.

Dates for the Basketball WA Go for 2&5 State Championships as follows:
Under 14 teams: Compete in the U14 Championships on Dec 11 & 12
Under 16 teams: Compete in the U15 Championships on Dec 4 & 5
Participation in Country Cup teams takes prioity over participating in local Association teams in these Championships.


TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Perth – Albury: A very early flight to Melbourne on Saturday 15 January 2011 followed by a bus trip to Albury.
The party returns on Sunday 23rd January 2011 - late in the evening.

COACHES AND MANAGERS

Each team will be accompanied by a Coach, an Assistant Coach and a Manager. There will also be several additional staff – a coach mentor and an experienced manager / administrator.
Basketball WA does not allow parents to coach or manage a team containing their own child.
