Whilst everyone is already aware, the KingPrint LPFL&NA wish to confirm that today’s scheduled 2010 Football and Netball Grand Finals have been re-scheduled to next SUNDAY 12th September 2010.
The Grand Finals will remain at Eureka Stadium (Nth Ballarat) and the League will be meeting with Nth Ballarat and CHFL representatives to discuss the clean up from the CHFL Grand Final the day before & facility issues to ensure that Eureka Stadium is in its best possible condition to host our Grand Finals next Sunday.
The Board of the Lexton Plains FL&NA wish to assure all members and supporters of the league that today’s decision was not made “lightly”, and the league is fully aware that some clubs (e.g caterer’s, competing sides who had functions arranged tonight, etc), suppliers, and the league itself (e.g marquee’s, portable toilets, etc) will be financially penalised or inconvenienced by today’s decision, but the league saw little option after it become apparent that four (4) of the scheduled sides could not have reached Ballarat due to road closures caused by floods - and therefore 4 of the scheduled Grand Finals could not proceed.
The decision was made after the Board consulted those clubs catering, those clubs who had been “cut off”, and those clubs present at the venue - and all alternative options considered before a final decision made. Updates from the Bureau of Meteorology also confirmed that with more torrential rain and high winds to come later in the morning and in the early afternoon that conditions would not improve, and this did influence the decision of the league.
The league also sought advice from those travelling in the horrendous road conditions, and the welfare and safety of all those travelling did play a major role in the league’s decision.
The photo of the Avoca Recreation Reserve earlier this morning – after the Avoca River burst its banks – does highlight the extent of the flooding in some areas. It should be noted that a number of the LPFL&NA northern clubs are forced to cross this river at several points en route to Ballarat and all their possible routes to Ballarat were closed.
All members, supporters and participants of the LPFL&NA can be assured that this decision was made with the best interests of the league “1st & foremost” in mind, and whilst we are aware that some may be inconvenienced in some way by this decision, a discussion with a Club President at 3pm this afternoon – where he advised that a number of Club members are sandbagging their homes and are in danger of losing property – puts the issue in perspective.
The Lexton Plains FL&NA look forward to hosting our 2010 Football and Netball Grand Finals next SUNDAY 12th September 2010 t Eureka Stadium.
