In Round 18 last Saturday Glen Orrock played his 225 A Grade game for Mount Compass and so joined the illustrious group of Player life Members of the Great Southern Football League.
He started his football career by playing Mini Colts with the Encounter Bay for one season in 1988. The Family then moved to Mt Compass to live and Glen began playing in the Junior Colts in 1989. He has played all his football at Mt Compass other than just over a season with South Adelaide in the under 17s and Under 19s.
He has taken a long time to reach this milestone – several knee operations have not helped and in 2000 he missed an entire season when he travelled to Europe. On his way in Malaysia he and friends hired motor scooters – he had raced junior Motorcross for 8 years so he could ride pretty well you would think – but he fell off and broke his collarbone all within 36 hours of leaving home. Not a good start.
His kicking ability was taught by Nifty and Glen Miller. Some of his Coaches have described him as unskilled but most times he is able to get out of the packs with the ball. Some of these skills may have come from running with the Bulls in Pamplona while away on his overseas trip.
He has some funny superstitions – the pair of jocks he wears for the first match of the season is the pair he wears for every match. He is always the last one out of the changerooms at the start of a match and after the game.
His record is 225 A Grade games, 1 Reserves game, 44 Senior Colts games and 47 Junior Colts games. Making a total of 317 games.
