St Ursula's College have finished as the 2010 Youth Girls Brisbane Lions Cup State Runners Up, after going down to Sunshine Coast powerhouse school Mountain Creek State High. St Ursula's were out classed by the Creekers 5.3 (33) to 1.1 (7) in an interesting State Final.
Although the score is one sided, this did not reflect the battle that took place at Coorparoo. Both SUC and MCSHS started the game with high intensity and pressure. St Ursula's were able to kick the first goal and hold the lead for the first quarter and a half. SUC lacked a power forward and were unable to convert their inside 50's into goals.
St Ursula’s midfield duo of Sullivan and McGorm were outstanding, but it was the St Ursula’s Centre Half back in Rogers who caught the umpire’s eye and was adjudged best on ground for the State Final.
Even though St Ursula’s didn’t win the State Final, this game wraps up a terrific year for the emerging Darling Downs powerhouse school. The schools highlights for 2010 include:
Youth Girls Cup Darling Downs regional winners, undefeated at the State Semi Finals, State Grand Finalists, B.O.G medal in the grand-final, DD region MVP, 2010 Girls school of the year, MVP State Semi Finals – These are outstanding highlights for a school that has only been involved in Australian Rules Football for just over 12months.
