This result was set up by a dominant first half where the Bombers outscored the Roos 9.5 to 3.6 to open up a comfortable 35 point advantage at the main break. From there the aging Roos struggled to match the run of the young Souths brigade as Frampton, Lundie Jenkins and Englart exploited the Roos lack of pace.
A hamstring injury to Holman Medallist Phil Dreise in the second quarter did not help the Roos cause although on ballers Tom Rudolph and Chris Grover did work hard in the engine room for Coolaroo all day.
Trent Saxelby continued his recent run of outstanding form for the Bombers and was clearly the go to man as Souths dominated the centre clearances for the game. Chris Jackson rucked magnificently for the Bombers and gave the likes of Saxelby, Englart and Crow first use for the majority of the game.
Up forward Webb was in ominous form booting 4 goals whilst setting up many other scoring opportunities for the Bombers small forwards while the Zilm brothers worked well together across the half forward line all day.
The Bombers win showed that they are back to some of the form which lead them to the 2008 Premiership and have signalled a clear warning to Toowoomba and University that they are peaking at the right end of the season.
For last year’s Premiers Coolaroo it’s back to the drawing board with a view to 2011. A major focus of the club must be to blood more youth into their senior side as a large contingent of players who had so much success for the Roos during their dominant premiership era of 2001-5 are an aging group. The new era of Coolaroo stars need to be identified next year.
