Vixen's Coach visits LYVNA!

A BIG Thank you to Joe & Julie Marshall who organised a visit from Julie Hornweeg, the coach of the Melbourne Vixens, to LYVNA last night.  Julie took the 15U Team 1&2 girls for an hour and half training session at the courts last night.

Julie was very impressed with the professionalism of the LYVNA.  She commented on how all of the girls were wearing their uniforms and said that she believed players need to look the part when training.

She put the players through some tough "free flow" sessions, moving the ball down the court.  She then coached them through their practice match.  It was a once in a lifetime experience for these girls, and we really can't thank Joe & Julie enough for providing this amazing opportunity.

Julie joined Toni Madden and the coaching staff for a cup of tea after the session and the following was her parting advice for us all:

  • There should ALWAYS be an option down the line; you don't have to use it, but there should always be one
  • Centres need to clear out of the defense third straight away if the ball is turned over.  She yelled at the centres, GET OUT OF THERE, WE DON"T NEED YOU YET!
  • Trust in your team mates
  • Either WA or GA should go over the line for the centre pass, never both of them; they should communicate with each other and only one of them lead out.
  • As coaches, we should spend alot of time on work off the ball; as in her opinion it's the most important part of the game - eg. keeping defenders busy, clearing space for team mates etc.

THANKS Joe and Julie Marshall and THANKS Julie Hornweeg!

GO LYVNA!
