when Australia takes on the world’s best basketball nations at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, LIVE and EXCLUSIVE from Istanbul.

The world’s top 24 basketball nations will collide at the end of the month for the 16th FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

The quadrennial event brings together the best players from around the world for 16 days of fierce competition, with the victorious nation taking home the coveted Naismith Trophy.

Australia enters the tournament as the 11th ranked nation, but will need to contend with the loss of NBA star Andrew Bogut and fellow big man Nathan Jawai who were both ruled out of the tournament through injury.

Toronto Raptors forward David Anderson and Portland Trail Blazers guard Patrick Mills will spearhead the Aussie squad, which features eight European-based players including All-Euroleague first team selection Aleks Maric.

The Boomers will have their work cut out in Group A, facing top-ten ranked teams Argentina, Serbia and Germany, as well as Angola and Jordan.

Meanwhile, FOX SPORTS will also provide coverage of Team USA’s opening matches against Croatia, Slovenia and Brazil.

Stacked with superstar talent and carrying the expectations of a country that is home to the biggest league in the world, the USA will look to the likes of LA Lakers forward Lamar Odom and Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo to deliver the nation its first world title since 1994.

FOX SPORTS coverage of the 2010 FIBA World Championship is available to FOXTEL and AUSTAR subscribers.

Basketball fans can stay up-to-date with all the latest news and results throughout the tournament on foxsports.com.au and on the FOX SPORTS News Channel (Ch 513).
