MATCH REPORT:
It was expected that this was going to be a close contest in
the very wintery conditions that greeted both teams. TEDAS
had the first score on the board within 30 seconds of the start,
with a behind. As the quarter progressed, the game was played
between both backlines, as each rebounded any opportunity the
other created to score. The first goal of the game when Lincoln
Albanese managed to find some space on his own in the forward
pocket to take an uncontested mark and slot through Southside’s
first score of the game. TEDAS’s first goal came late in the
quarter via Jackson Sloan, to give his team a 3 point lead at
quarter time. In the second quarter, it was more of the same,
as neither team was able to get on top. Sam Carroll for TEDAS
took a good mark and casually kicked a goal to increase their
lead. Southside’s Ben Truin was moved onto the ball which
provided immediate dividends, as he collected the ball near
centre half forward and snapped truly. As half time approached,
a strong tackle by TEDAS in the backline saw a long kick to
the forward line, where the ball spilled over the back and
Linden Brunt collected the ball to calmly kick TEDAS’s third
goal and provide them with a 12 point lead at the long break.
Seven minutes in and no advances on the scoreboard, the game
got a whole lot harder as the heavens opened up. Southside
continued to attack the ball, and were rewarded after some
good tackles with a free kick, that saw Lachlan Pollard kick
truly and reduce the margin to a goal. The TEDAS boys lifted
their intensity after this goal, and some good team play by
Jordan Aucote at half back, to Josh Gray who shared it with
Ryan Dunn, and he found Sam Carroll on the lead and Sam
kicked his second for the game. It was not long after, that
Linden Brunt swooped on another loose ball and kick his
second under much pressure to give TEDAS a 17 point lead at
the final change. With both sides wanting to win that Grand
Final berth, it was going to a tough last quarter. Southside
started the better, but were unable to kick straight, getting
two behinds. TEDAS got the first goal against the run of play
when Ryan Dunn scored, and further goals to Brunt, McGrath,
Carroll and Gray sealed the match and saw TEDAS get up in a
close fought game by both teams.
