MATCH REPORT:
Congratulations to Jack Jenkins, West End, who played his
100th game today. Fantastic effort that!
West End got off to a good start in this game, as Alistair
Jenkin snapped up a good mark in front of goal and opened
up their account with a goal early in the quarter.
Cumberland Park responded quickly, with a short pass from
Ty Davidson finding Troy Forrest, who slotted through a goal
on his trusty left foot to even the scores. West End upped
the ante towards the end of the quarter with goals to
Schaeche, Jenkins & Jenkin, leading 4-2 to 1 goal at
quarter time. Cumberland Park started the second quarter
well, getting the ball into the forward line, but unable
to make inroads to the score due to tight defence from
West End. Cumberland’s Dylan Eleftheriou threw himself
with courage into a marking contest and got crunched,
but got up, laid a tackle, got the free kick and sent
the ball back into his forward to try and lift his team.
West End were able to score a major after rebounding the
ball from the backline through Kyle Stammers, and then
Shaun Leahy got his first, and Jack Jenkins swooped on
a loose ball to kick his second and allow West End to
hold a 6 goal lead at half time. Both coaches urged
more from their players at the long break, and this
was evidenced in a tighter quarter from both teams,
with the frugal backline once again rebounding any
Cumberland Park forays forward, while Schaeche,
Clavarino and Jenkin added goals for west End,
extending their lead. To Cumberland Park’s credit,
their kids did not give in and continued to give
their best in the tough conditions and Josh Vella
did kick their second goal of the game, but Leahy
added two more for him, Jenkin kicked 3 and Josh
Drenan slotted one through roving the back of the
pack to finish the game off well for West End and
a great win to celebrate Jack Jenkin’s 100 games
and a Grand Final berth.
