Iles stormed home late in the season to take out the coveted award polling 28 votes for the home and away season to edge out Highfields midfielder Zac Chimes by 4 votes (24). Iles was clearly stunned with his back to back win and was full of praise for his team mates in his acceptance speech, crediting them largely for the award. Zac Chimes and David O’Toole (Goondiwindi) jumped out of the blocks early in the voting to lead the count after 5 rounds and by round 10 O’Toole had skipped away to hold a solo lead. But Iles polled in all but 1 of his last 7 games and in doing so became only 4th player in the history of the award to win the medal 2 years running. Lockyer Valley midfielder Craig Jervis was the last player to win back to back Holman’s in 97-98 and only Iles (2009-10), Jervis (97-98), Peter Holman (87-88) and John Green who won 3 in a row from 84-86 have achieved this feat. Holman runner up Zac Chimes capped off a great season by also taking out the John Green leading goal kicker (69 goals) in what was a great night for the newly formed Highfields senior club who also picked up the Rookie of the Year (Chris Sheath) and Coach of the Year (Robert Cherry) awards. This year’s Holman Medal night was witnessed by approximately 200 attendees and also included the stand up comedy of former Australian test cricketer Greg Ritchie as well as an auction to raise money for the Toowoomba Crows U18 side. The event was a great spectacle and credit goes to all involved especially Heather Green and Sandra Tessmann who coordinated much of the nights proceedings. Find below a full list of all the award winners on the night. Congratulations to all award winners and a special thank you goes out to master MC’s Jason Wright and Jeff Neumann who did a fantastic job controlling the night’s proceedings.
