Season 2010 has come to end for the Under18 Toowoomba Crows, although they didn't reach the lofty highs of 2009, in reflection on season 2010, the coaching staff are confident that everyone has learned a great deal.
The season started with energy and enthusiasm and results on the score board reflected that energy with a 3 - 5 win loss record after 8 rounds, which that could of easily been a 4 - 4 record after a hearbreaking after the siren loss to Sandgate in round 3. But sadly that was lost midway through the season and with a string of injuries, unavailability of players and a lack of commitment the team underachieved in the second half of the season. What is pleasing is the fact that the Crows gave 49 players the opportunity to play at this level. We built on our relationship with Bundaberg Wide Bay by providing a pathway for their talented players to experience higher level of football and the Crows are hoping this something that can be fostered further in future years.
The Toowoomba Crows turned their low energy mid season slump around by encouraging youth to be a major part of the team and allowing Under 16's to experience football at this level. What they brought to the team was enthusiasm and a willingness to learn and the Crows would like to thank those players for their brilliant attitude. By the year's end the Crows had 11 of the 22 players who were 16/17 years of age playing in the side which is a great sign for next year's team.
Keith Webb stated, "As a coach you never want to make excuses for underachievement and I'm certainly not doing that. I'd like to think that a coach's main jon is to inspire his/her players to commit 100% to their team, provide knowledge and direction to all players and give them access to a learning environment".
"Well we certainly had a learning environment in Division 1 this year, the football was fast, tough and uncompromising and while we were certainly competitive in the majority of our games this year. There is a lot to work on in relation to becoming a genuini finals contender in this division but a worthy challenge none the less", Coach Webb said.
Crows Co-Captain Kyle Smith also created more history for the Crows by taking out his second consecutive Fairest and Best player award the Michael Langfield Medal, the first player in Crows history to win Two Best and Fairest's. While 17 year old Matthew Waltisbuhl took out the Leanne Newman Trophy for Best and Fairest Runner up, 3 votes shy off the win.
