Your tipster would be lucky to be able to pick his schnoz after last week-ends four games but at least got the Swans right and the fact that Robbo kicked his ton. This week-end at Deakin Reserve and at the Memorial Oval at Euroa to complete Round 16.
Perhaps a turn-up last week-end at Tatura where the young legs of the Benalla Saints got them over the line against the more fancied Bulldogs. The Saints were fair dinkum all game and despite being down at the first three breaks (4 points at 3/4 time) they rallied to kick 5 goals one behind to 2 goals 2 in the last quarter to run out winners by 13 points. Ricky SYMES and Ben FAHEY kicked 3 each for the Saints with the best players being listed as Matthew SHARP and young Mitchell EXTON. Cameron TREWIN kicked 4 for the Bullies and it is interesting to note that Tatura only named 4 in their best players. This loss could prove to be fatal to the Bulldogs finals aspirations. It was a real nail biter down at Seymour where the visitors from Echuca won by the barest of margins - Echuca 16.9 (105) to the Lions 15.14 (104) - 25 scoring shots to 29. Chris EGAN slotted 5 for the Murray Bombers, Ayden WALTON got 4. Paul COLBERT from Seymour seems to have a real bad dose of the yips at the minute with returns of 3.5, 4.5 & 2 goals 4 behinds over the last three weeks. Justin DORWARD was named Echuca's best player and when you have him playing to his best along with Kristian HEIGHT and Brad MURRAY we are going to have a very good Echuca side. The Murray Bombers could be your tipsters smokie for the flag! Kyabram accounted for Rochy on the Tigers home turf - this win also stamps the Bombers to be real premiership contenders too - no doubt about that laddie! Ky were down by 2 points at 1/2 time and up by 3 points at 3/4 time but kicked 5 goals 5 in the last quarter to the Tigers' 4 goals 1 behind to run out winners by 13 points. Mark ADAMSON kicked 4, Kayne PETTIFER and young Liam OGDEN each kicked 3. Scott HANN kicked 5 for Rochester and was named their best player. Josh VICK and Scott BEATTIE were named as Ky's best players. A lot of attention was paid to events at Princess Park in Shepparton where Russell ROBERTSON kicked his 100th goal from a snap-shot early in the last quarter. We are reliably informed that a televison network camera went out onto the ground for a quick interview with the high-flyer - do we really need this in our League? Congratulations to ROBBO - well done! Robbo now has 102 goals recorded which from his 16 games averages out at 6.375 goals per game. 6 goals a game is a very good return and a reason why the Swans are the 2nd highest scorers (behind Kyabram - 2017 to 2112). The Swans lead right throughout the day to record a 96 point win over Shepparton who again were brave but again under-manned. Robbo kicked 7, Damien YZE 5, Adem YZE 3 and Nathan BROWN 3. The Swans best players were listed as Adem YZE, Nathan BROWN, Brian DURBRIDGE, Damien YZE, Jason RACHELLE and Robbo. Hhhhmmm! Ominous is it not? Daniel McINTYRE, Rhys O'SULLIVAN, Jarrod MASKELL and Brodie JACQUES were the Bears best.
On Saturday, Mansfield will be very up and about at Deakin where they will have to produce the form from last year's final game at the venue to knock over the Demons who have an almost 100% list to select from. Nathan GEMMILL might just have to wait another 7 days. Stephen McINTYRE could be making his Senior debut for the Dee's having eased himself back into the game over the last few weeks in the Reserves. (Watch this space!) Jason EAGLE kicked 9 last outing at Euroa and it will be interesting to see how many he gets this week. Mansfield defeated Seymour by 14 points last outing where there best players were listed as Sam ARMSTRONG, Ross BROWN, Brett MAHONY, Tim Van Der KLOOSTER, Scott HEVERAN and David MENSCH. This could be a really good game at Deakin with the Eagles desperate to win and take over Rochy's 6th possie on the ladder. Mansfield have Tatura at home and are then away to Benalla in the final round. Rochy have Shepp. at Deakin and are then home to Echuca in Round 18. Likewise the Demons will probably be hell bent on winning to jump back up to 2nd on the ladder at Echuca's expense. Is'nt this time of year exciting? To wrap up Round 16 the Magpies host Mooroopna over at the Memorial Oval. Euroa were pumped by 126 points by United last outing. Mooroopna had some very good players out in their last game under the lights at Kyabram where they were defeated by 44 points. The Cats should be back to almost full strength and should be too accomplished for the Maggies.
Until next week - take care out there! Next week, Round 17 ---- Mooroopna v Seymour, Echuca v Shepp Swans, Shepparton v Rochester, Mansfieild v Tatura, Benalla v Euroa and under lights over at Ky, the Bombers host Shepparton United.
