Echuca spanked Shepparton by 90 points at Deakin Reserve despite not having MURRAY, BRIGGS, ISMAIL and Joel PERRY in the side and then losing their bench to injury through the day. Kristian HEIGHT returned back from Canberra with 4 goals and a best on performance. David DANIEL, Matt PELL and Rowan HISCOCK really had a dip for the Bears. Perhaps Mansfield can be thankful that big Lion Paul COLBERT kicked 4 goals 5 behinds rather than 7 goals 2 or 6 goals 3 as Mansfield only defeated Seymour by 14 points but then on the other hand Mansfield were not that straight either as they kicked 13 goals 18 for the day. Youngster Ross BROWN stepped up to the plate for the Eagles by kicking 3 goals and being named in the best along with Sam ARMSTRONG and Tim Van Der KLOOSTER. Paul COLBERT and Jason COLE along with Adam REID who had a good return from injury were the Lions better players. The Saints really gave the Swans a bit of a fright over at Benalla - the Swans were up by 4 goals 2 at 1/4 time and have won the game by 4 goals neat - 17.7 to 13.7. We've had a couple of reports in this game with Tim LOOBY going in the book of central umpire Mick SHANNON for grabbing Ben FAHEY around the neck - Tim has taken the offered set penalty of one week suspension. Leading goal-kicker Russell ROBERTSON was also reported by Umpire SHANNON with a striking offence against Mitch EXTON - he will be contesting this matter at the GVFL Tribunal on Friday evening before the Swans play Shepp. Both Robbo and Damien YZE kicked 7 goals and were named in the Swans best. Matthew SHARP kicked 4 for Benalla, Ricky SYMES kicked 3. Tatura had a very good win over Rochy with Cam TREWIN really in the middle of a purple patch to kick another 7 and be the Bulldogs best. The Tigers were well served by Elliot BOWEN, Guy CAMPBELL and Scott HANN. Shepparton United had a 21 goal win over the Magpies over at Euroa - Jason EAGLE could be back in town with a bag of 9 and Mattie DAVIES slotting 5 and being named the Demons best. Young Gus VARLEY was named the Maggies best along with Andrew DOXEY and Happy HARPER. Kyabram, despite a slow start, kicked 13 goals 14 behinds to Mooroopna's 6 goals 8 after quarter time. The Bombers do handle the lights and their ground very well and have a team of real goer's - the Cats were weakened by the withdrawal of a few of their better players before the game started but will be pleased with the performance of Jack COWMAN in the ruck. Kayne PETTIFER and Heath BARNETT both kicked 4 for the Bombers. Matt GREEN and Shayne LYNCH were good for the Cats as was Chris SCHIRMER.
This Round 16 is a Split-Round where we have 4 games all on Saturday and then next week-end we have two more games. Remember; the Swans v Shepp. game is definately being played on SATURDAY and not on Sunday as orginally planned. The winners will be bolded and highlighted - OK? With a question mark over a number of the Murray Bomber players, your tipster is selecting the Seymour Lions to bowl over Echuca at Kings Park. A big call perhaps, but it seems Seymour have not played at their best for some weeks but showed a bit last week up at Mansfield and could be about ready to get it all together. As mentioned, the Echuca team may have a few sore boys. Likewise, most pundits will select Kyabram to defeat Rochester over at the Moon Oval but your man here is tipping Rochester to get the points over Ky. Rochester simply must win to stay in the hunt for the finals - Elliott BOWEN with Perry OLIVER up forward and Guy CAMPBELL down back to co-ordinate stopping the Ky forwards will do the job for the Tigers. Tatura should account for Benalla on their home turf but don't be surprised that the Saints take it right up to the Bullies as their good players have been playing well which brings up the next level of young players. At Princess Park the Shepparton Swans will be jumping out of their skins with them getting the 4 points from their win over Shepparton back on the 2nd of April. You could almost back it in that there should not be any muck-ups in this game. The Shepparton Bears are now officially without a win for the season and should be going all out to avoid being dacked as this is their third last game for the year, they have Rochy at Deakin on August 21st and then the Demons on August 28th. The Bears have got to go all out for a win but it is thought the Swans will be way too strong and could record a big win.
Next week to complete Round 16 - we will have Shepparton United hosting Mansfield at Deakin Reserve and the Magpies taking on Mooroopna at Euroa.
