It has been a busy ten days for Harbour rep teams and individuals from senior level down to Under 13’s.

It began with Harbour Heat forward BJ Anthony and former Harbour players Tom Abercrombie and Kirk Penney making the 12 man Tall Blacks squad for a European tour preceding the World Championships in Turkey later this month.

At the same time as the Tall Blacks trial the Harbour Breeze led by Tall Ferns Jodi Cameron and Noni Wharemate were winning leg two of the Womens Basketball Championships, defeating Otago 62-47 in the final at Trusts Stadium The Breeze are stacked with current and former age group internationals but it is particularly pleasing to see Amanda Harris back in harbour colours, after three years at college in America.

Harbour Heat Reserves continued their winning ways narrowly beating West Auckland 88-80 to remain undefeated in the Supercity Basketball Competition.

Under 19 reps Stefan Mandic and Brad Anderson was prominent for the Junior Tall Blacks as they finished third in the Conference Basketball Tournament in Porirua.. The week long tournament is part of the JTB’s build up for the upcoming international series against Australia.

Under 13 and Under 15 Premierships have been held over the last two weekends with Harbour teams enjoying a fair degree of success in their quest to reach Nationals. The top four teams in each age group progress to Nationals.

The Under 13 rep teams had a good time of it, the boys A team finishing second to Waitakere and the young B team a creditable 5th. The A team lost to Waitakere 81-67 but the Dan Ryan coached youngsters will head to Nationals expecting to make a strong showing.

Both Under 13 girls teams qualified, the A team finishing first and the B team third. The A girls were undefeated, completely dominating their opposition – their closest game being a 75-29 hammering of West Auckland.

The Trevor Johnston coached Under 15 girls had a much tougher time of things. In pool play they comfortably beat Harbour B before overcoming Waitakere 75-69 and West Auckland 52-49 in nail biters. It was equally close in the final, Harbour  overcoming Waitakere again 77-73 in an exciting game with Ella Fotu a stand out. The Harbour B girls finished 4th to also advance to Nationals

The Under 15A boys had a critical three point victory in pool play against Waitakere to progress straight to the final but found the going too hard against a big West Auckland team in the final losing 73-51. The Harbour B and C teams competed well but failed to make the top four.
